Wood chipper accident leaves one person dead

Authorities are investigating an industrial accident involving a wood chipper that resulted in one death.

Guilford County Sheriff's Col. Randy Powers said the accident occurred at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Pallet Express, 2821 Assembly Road, off U.S. 29 north of Greensboro.

Officials have not released the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the accident, Powers said.

State president of NAACP will speak in Reidsville

REIDSVILLE -- The Rev. William J. Barber II, the state president for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, will be the guest speaker at the Reidsville branch's 60th annual Freedom Fund Banquet.

The banquet will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Baptist Church multipurpose center, 807 Piedmont St. This year's theme is "A Movement, Not a Moment."

No tickets will be sold at the door.

Horticulturist to offer tips on preparing for winter

REIDSVILLE -- Horticulturist Brad Overby will offer tips for preparing yards, plants and trees for the winter weather during a forum sponsored by the Reidsville Appearance Commission.

The forum will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the City Council chambers, 230 W. Morehead St.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.

This is the first of the Appearance Commission's Community Forum Series.

Bojangles' restaurant to open location in Eden

EDEN -- A Bojangles' restaurant will open in December in the former Mrs. Winner's Chicken & Biscuits location in Eden, business development director Mike Dougherty said.

Mrs. Winner's closed Sunday, and renovations are being made to the building, Dougherty said.

He said the franchisee has been working with the city more than a year to open a Bojangles' in the town.
